If you would have asked me about being a mountain biking instructor for a living seventeen years ago, I would have laughed out loud! I had great thing going, working at The Aspen Club; one of the finest health clubs in the nation & was fully  immersed in the mountain lifestyle, including racing my mountain & road bikes. But, as more & more club members asked for assistance with their cycling skills, it got me to thinking; pondering the question "What if?"  I decided to go for it & took the leap, quitting my full time position and establishing a business teaching mountain & road biking lessons. I called the new adventure sports school Skarvan Performance Athletics (what was I thinking?) & our unique niche was offering the first mountain biking lessons in the area. 

During the spring of '96, I also acquired an 8 wk. old pup, who I named Sunny after my favorite mountain biking trail; Sunnyside. It was a pretty easy call to change our name to Sun Dog Athletics. I headed into our first winter season with a new name that better captured our spirit & was fueled by an incredible enthusiasm to bring athletic snowshoeing to Aspen. As with cycling, I had developed a passion for the sport for over a decade.

Due to the sensational response from valley locals & guests from around the globe, we've been very blessed to grow to a group of seven instructors, offering individuals & groups instruction in seven mountain adventure sports, including mountain & road biking, Nordic hiking, in-line skating, canoeing, snowshoeing & cross country skiing; basically anything athletic that makes you breathe hard! YOU will benefit from the many years of sharing our passion, experience, knowledge & focus on building skills in a safe, fun learning environment.
